The Path to Intentional Inclusiveness

ME_PathToInclusion_V2a_2x

We developed this Path to Intentional Inclusiveness model to help people understand that inclusion is a process rather than a destination, declaration, or hope.

This path represents the steps an individual, team, or institution might take towards creating intentional inclusiveness. We make a point of highlighting intentionality because inclusiveness doesn’t happen by accident.

We each have blind spots we can choose to keep hidden, or to acknowledge and address so that we can grow in awareness. Listening to the voices of others and working to understand our own behavior are intentional choices that can have significant impact on relationships and workplace climate. With that foundation, action comes from a place of awareness and knowledge. Sustained change is more possible.

We don’t claim that any of these actions are easy, but we have found that when individuals and institutions acknowledge that inclusiveness is a process, and work to address each step along the path, they are better able to navigate change and reap the benefits of an inclusive culture.
